The Memories of Yangmingshan Photograph Collection Drive hosted by Yangmingshan National Park started in February this year (2019). Up until the cutoff date at the end of June, about 200 old photographs in total were submitted by 11 people. The Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters will start scanning, categorizing, and organizing the old photographs collected in the first stage. Since many people have yet to participate, there will be a second stage of the collection drive, and we ask people to go through old photographs at home. Photographs of any themes or contexts containing Yangmingshuwu, President Chiang Kai-shek at Yangmingshan, and other photographs of the Yangmingshan area that showcase its people, streetside scenery, recreational activities, lifestyles, educational aspects, industries, architecture, transportation, politics, medicine, folk culture, or religious beliefs are all welcome to be submitted to the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters. Photographs capture images that bring back memories in individuals and communities. The Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters have organized the 2019 Memories of Yangmingshan Photograph Collection Drive with the intent of using visual records to create an authentic representation of the historical Yangmingshan. The Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters also hopes that their efforts in collecting and digitalizing old photographs and preserving written records can prove useful for academic research, archival exhibitions, and other forms of use and reuse. Submission for the event’s second stage starts today and ends on October 31, 2019. Old photographs taken between years 1840 and 1990 are accepted, and there are no limitations as to who can make a submission. All participants will receive one commemorative souvenir. Owners of winning submissions will receive NT600 per photograph as a reward for the archival use of the pictures. The original photographs will be sent back to participants via registered mail after the pictures have been scanned or otherwise reproduced. Please refer to the official website of the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters at http://www.ymsnp.gov.tw to download the rules and regulations of the event. We look forward to your submissions!
