  • Are there any paths and restrooms accessible to disabled persons?

    There are barrier-free restrooms available at all national park visitor centers. The Erziping trail is the only barrier-free trail in the park accessible to the disabled. Visitors can travel by car from the Taipei city area by way of Yangde Boulevard, Yangjin Highway and connect onto Bailaka Highway (101A county highway). There is a toll-free parking lot at Erziping trailhead. The trail is approximately 1.7 km long with a total difference in elevation of 25 m. Approximately 80 minutes is needed to complete the trail (roundtrip).

    Informational signs are found along the way, and there is a pavilion for resting. There are two barrier-free restrooms available just before the start of the trail. The Erziping visitor center at the beginning of the trail also rents wheelchairs, sells food, drink and provides information to visitors (+886-2-28617024).

  • How do I become a conservation patrol volunteer? When does recruiting take place?

    The main role of the conservation patrol volunteer is to help us patrol the ecological protected areas, trails and other areas.

    Park Headquarters recruits and train its own volunteers. Only those who finish basic training, special training, field training, and pass the hands-on fieldwork training session will become official volunteers.

  • Why was Yangmingshan known as “grass mountain” in the past?

    The name “grass mountain” was a result of early settlers moving into the area. As the population grew, settlers earned their living from cutting down local trees for timber. Silver grass is a sun-loving pioneer plant species. It spread quickly throughout the deforested land to form large fields across the mountain, hence the name “grass mountain”.

  • Can we use miniature gas stoves to boil water for tea?

    Yangmingshan National Park prohibits camping, cooking, barbecuing, grass-sliding, etc. except in designated recreational areas. The park is not an alpine-type national park and thus outdoor cooking is unnecessary. The use of miniature gas stoves is prohibited for public safety.

  • How do I get to Yangmingshan by bus?

    Take the 260 bus from Zhengzhou Road outside of Taipei Main Station Exit 2 (to Yangmingshan bus station).
    Take the R5 bus from Jiantan or Shilin MRT station (to Yangmingshan bus station).
    Take the 1717 Royal Bus at the Bureau of National Health Insurance (Taipei Branch) from Taipei City to Jinshan (to Yangmingshan bus stop, Headquarters Visitor Center, Yangmingshuwu, Xiaoyoukeng, Shanghuang creek parking lot via Yangjin Highway).
    Take the S9 bus from Beitou MRT station (to Yangming park, Yangmingshan bus stop, Headquarters Visitor Center, Yangmingshuwu and Zhuzihu).
    Take the S230 bus from Beitou MRT station (to Yangmingshan bus stop).
    Take the S8 bus from Shipai MRT station (to Yangming park, Yangmingshan bus stop, Headquarters Visitor Center, Yangmingshuwu, and Zhuzihu).
    Take the R15 bus from Jiantan or Shilin MRT station to Lengshuikeng or Qingtiangang.
    Take the 681 bus from Donghu to Yangmingshan bus stop, and Yangmingshan second parking lot (Headquarters Visitor Center).
    Take the holiday/weekend bus 109 (Wanfang Communityà Yangmingshan second parking lot) or bus 111 (Xinzhuangà Yangmingshan second parking lot)

  • Where can I view awn flowers on Yangmingshan?

    The main species of awn within the park is silvergrass (Miscanthus sinensis var. glaber), which, due to the volcanic sulfur fumes, produces flowers with a red tint instead of the usual white. The flowers inspired the line "the red grass on the mountain seems to burn" in a poem about Yangmingshan. Every year in October, the silvergrass blooms red flowers, a sight which is unique to our park. The best places to view silvergrass flowers are Mt. Datun, Xiaoyoukeng, Macao, and from Lengshuikeng to Qingtiangang.

  • Where do I petition for the collection of samples?

    For the collection of samples with the national park, please follow the Yangmingshan National Park Specimen Collection Permit Application Procedure and apply accordingly.

  • Is barbecuing allowed in Yangmingshan?

    According to the National Parks Act and section 5 of the Yangmingshan National Park Rules and Regulations, barbecuing is prohibited inside the park grounds except in specifically designated areas. Barbecuing is not allowed in the park next to Yangmingshan second parking lot or Qianshan Park. 

  • Where can I find commemorative stamps?

    There are a variety of commemorative stamps for visitors to collect at the Headquarters visitor center, at Yangmingshuwu, Xiaoyoukeng, Erziping, Datun, Qingtiangang, Lengshuikeng, and Longfenggu visitor centers.

  • How do I apply for entry into an ecological protected area?

    Yangmingshan has three ecological protected areas: Menghuan Pond, Lujiaokeng, and Mt. Huangzui. There is an observation deck for visitors to view Taiwan Isoetes and other plants at Menghuan Pond Ecological protected area.

    You must apply online at our website to enter the Lujiaokeng and Mt. Huangzui ecological protected areas.

  • Can visitors enter the waters in Yangmingshan National Park?

    The park has steep mountains and fast flowing rivers. The terrain is rugged and many dangers lurk in the water. Playing or swimming in the water is prohibited within the premises of the national park.

  • How do I request a guided tour?

    Visitor may apply a guided tour via the website. Please check the following rules for the application.

    The service is provided free of charge. The application allows us to plan your visit.
    Qualified applicants: Non-profit organizations or groups.
    Number of people: More than 20 (less than 80)
    When to reserve: 14 days before visit.

  • How big is Yangmingshan National Park?

    Yangmingshan National Park is located on the northern edge of the Taipei basin. It starts with in the east with the eastern side of Mt. Huangzui and Mt. Wuzhi and reached west to the western foothills of Mt. Xiangtian and Mt. Miantian. It extends north to Mt. Zhuzi and Mt. Tudigong. To the south it extends to the southern foothills of Mt. Shamao. Total area is approximately 11,455 hectares with varying elevation from 200 to 1,120 meters above sea level.

    It overlaps with the administrative areas of Taipei city's Shilin and mountainous areas of Beitou district, and New Taipei city's Tamsui, Sanzhi, Shimen, Jinshan, and Wanli districts.

  • What are the opening hours for the Tianxiyuan Ecology Education Center?

    The Ecology Education Center is open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and entry into the Tianxiyuan park is from 9:30 am to 10:00 am and from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm. Visitors must apply and receive approval in advance (for detailed requirements, please contact our service personnel or visit our official website) or register on-site for admissions. After filling out information at the service counter, visitors (no more than 20 to a group) are guided through the park by our trained staff at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

    For the time being, no tickets or other fees are required to enter the park.

    The park is closed on the last Monday of every month except when there is a public holiday, in which case the park will also be closed the following day. The park will also be closed during the months of January and February, as well as over Chinese New Year and on Tomb Sweeping Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Moon Festival, and Election Day.

    The park and/or certain roads may be closed at any time if deemed necessary.

  • How many residents live within Yangmingshan National Park?

    According to the headquarters' 2000 Yangmingshan National Park Second Comprehensive Review of Previous Operations-Natural and Cultural Resources Survey and Review report: Taipei County (now New Taipei City): 1,939 residents; Taipei City: 8,856 residents; total: 10,795 residents.

  • What are the times for guided tours of the Yangmingshuwu visitor center and Zhongxing Guesthouse? Should I reserve a tour in advance?

    The Yangmingshuwu visitor center is open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Tickets (NT$50 each) for guided tours at the Zhongxing Guesthouse are available 10 minutes before the following tour times:

    Individual visitors (tour in Chinese only): 9:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Tickets are available on-site. Maximum of 50 people per tour.
    Group visitors: 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM. 
    Groups of 20–50 people need to make a reservation two weeks in advance (for English and Japanese tours)

  • What are the visitor center’s opening hours?

    All visitor centers are closed on Lunar New Year's Eve and the last Monday of every month (closed an extra day if Monday is a national holiday). The Headquarters visitor center is open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. All other visitor centers (Xiaoyoukeng, Datun, Erziping, Qingtiangang, Lengshuikeng, Longfenggu, and Yangmingshuwu) are open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

  • How many visitor centers are there? What about inquiries by phone?

    There are a total of 9 visitor centers: the Headquarters visitor center, Yangmingshuwu visitor center, Xiaoyoukeng visitor center, Datun visitor center, Erziping visitor center, Qingtiangang visitor center, Lengshuikeng visitor center, Longfenggu visitor center and the Tianxiyuan Ecology Education Center.
