The entire body is green except for the abdomen, which is white; it also has a white circle around the eyes. The white-eye is often mistaken for the grey-cheeked fulvetta, the white-bellied erpornis, and other birds. Thin and pointy beak; fine white hairs around the eyes. Habitat is mainly forests, and it mostly feeds on insects and fruits.

Because the tree is fragrant, water, and bug resistant, the camphor tree was often used in the production of sculptures and furniture. This lead to a sharp decline of the population and the near extinction of Taiwan's native forests until restoration efforts planted large groves of camphor along pathways.

Latin name: Gardenia jasminoides Ellis White, fragrant flowers bloom in late spring and early summer. The fruit turns a milky yellow or yellowish red when ripe. It contains yellow pigments that can be used for natural dyes and food coloring. Flowering season is April to June.

Latin name: Viburnum odoratissimum Ker The sweet viburnum is an evergreen shrub with a smooth bark and oppositely arranged branches. Young branches are red and slightly hairy. After lignification, the hairs fall off the tree is an excellent ornamental for gardens. Fruits are edible and attract birds. Flowering season is from February to April.

Latin name: Liquidambar formosana Hance The fragrant maple is the most important tree species on Mt. Zhongzheng. It is a large deciduous tree belonging to the family Hamamelidaceae. Latin name: Machilus thunbergii Sieb. & Zucc.The tree most representative of Yangmingshan National Park is red nanmu. In spring it is adorned with red, pig foot-like flower buds, which earned it the Chinese name of “pig foot nanmu”. It often mixes together with other broad-leaved trees to form large forests.

Latin name: Prunus campanulata Maxim. Taiwan cherry is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rosaceae. It has oval-shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves have clear main dorsal veins. Filamentous stipules can be found near the petioles when leaves are young. Since the stipules fall off quickly, only obvious nectaries can be found on older leaves. The flowers are made up of long purplish red petals. 3 to 5 blossoms grow in bunches on the leaf scar. The cherry's fruits are also purplish red in color when ripe. Flowers bloom from late December until April.
