The name “grass mountain” was a result of early settlers moving into the area. As the population grew, settlers earned their living from cutting down local trees for timber. Silver grass is a sun-loving pioneer plant species. It spread quickly throughout the deforested land to form large fields across the mountain, hence the name “grass mountain”.
