Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters will be hosting the ”East Asia Coastal Region Chestnut Tiger(Parantica sita niphonica) Mark-Release-Recapture International Conference” on June 3, 2016.
Chestnut Tiger (Parantica sita niphonica) may be found all along eastern Asia, from South Korea and Japan to the Indochina Peninsula and Indonesia. Each year from May to June, the unique phenomenon of mass Family Danaidae outbreaks occurs throughout the mountains of Yangmingshan National Park, including the Datun, Miantian, Zhuzi, and Cising Mountains. According to records accumulated over the previous years, the Chestnut Tigers of Taiwan and Japan exhibit behaviors of mutual migration. However, apart from records of recapture, the time of appearance, changes in population number and specific migration routes of the Chestnut Tiger are still subject to investigation. The aim of this conference is to enable the general public to acquire a deeper understanding of the behavior of the Chestnut Tigers that reside along the coasts of east Asia. The interaction and exchange between researchers will also contribute toward inspiring new directions of research as well as the discovery of new theories and methodologies. Japanese expert academics, Dr. Itaru Kanazawa, Chief Researcher of the Entomology Research Lab at Osaka Museum of Natural History, and Dr. Masahiro Kurita, President of Gumma Paz College, Japan, as well as their Taiwanese counterparts, Dr. Chien-Chih Chen, Associate Professor at the Department of Earth and Life Sciences, University of Taipei, Hsiao-Ya Yu, Instructor at National Overseas Chinese Senior High School, and Hsin-Te Lee of the Graduate Institute of Entomology, National Taiwan University, have been invited to share the outcomes of their research. The conference presentations encompass the 5 following topics: The Chestnut Tiger Migration and Species Differentiation; Migratory Status of Chestnut Tiger in Asia--A Study of Penghu; Characteristics of Chestnut Tiger Inhabitation and Migration in the Fukushima Prefecture; Investigation of Chestnut Tiger Long Distance Movements through Population Genetic Structure; Population Changes in the Chestnut Tiger of Yangmingshan, and so on. The conference is a perfect opportunity for further understanding the ecology and behavior of Chestnut Tiger populations, and one to which we sincerely invite your attendance. Participants will be awarded 6 hrs Certification points both of Civil Servant Lifelong Learning and Environmental Education Lifelong Learning. Registration is limited, please submit your application form via fax (02-2381-9406) or email to the University of Taipei Department of Earth and Life Sciences (parantica3901@gmail.com) before June 1, or complete your application on the online registration website.
