Yangmingshan Butterfly Festival opens May 31

Every May to July, as nectariferous plants such as Eupatorium shimadae bloom, groups of mainly milkweed butterflies flutter about Mt. Datun area. To help you enjoy this wonderful sight, the Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters will hold a series of events from May 31 to July 31, including a Butterfly Concert, Mt. Datun Butterfly Tour, a Butterfly Ecology Exhibition, and Butterfly Festival Lectures. 

The Butterfly Concert will be take place on May 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., and will feature a wind band playing music related to butterflies to provide visitors with an auditory feast. Mt. Datun Butterfly Tour will be held from May 31 to June 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with on-site registration at the Erziping Visitor Center. Butterfly tour guides will lead you around the Mt. Datun car lane to view the butterflies fluttering among the nectariferous plants. Through the in-depth explanations of our guides, you will learn about the ecological relationship between butterflies and their host nectariferous plants. 

The Butterfly Ecology Exhibition will run from May 31 to July 31 at the Yangmingshan National Park Visitor Center and Datun Visitor Center. There will be photos of butterflies along with simple explanations to lead you into the ecological world of butterflies, and there will also be a display of common butterfly host plants and nectariferous plants found in the Yangmingshan area. 

Butterfly Festival Lectures will be held at the Headquarters Visitor Center on June 8, June 14, and June 21, with experts and scholars from different fields invited to speak about butterfly related topics, so you can get to know, understand, and care for butterflies from different perspectives. The park reminds you to please take public transportation when visiting the butterflies. You can take the MRT to Jiantan Station and then take the 260 or Red 5 bus, or you can go to Shipai Station and take the mini-bus S8, or you can go to Beitou Station and take the mini-bus S9 or the 230 bus to Yangmingshan Bus Station, and then take the 108 shuttle bus to the Erziping Stop.
