Enjoy Nature, Embrace Yangmingshan: Registration Begins for the “Yangmingshan Volcano and Geology Exploration Tour”
If you have ever seen Yangmingshan’s Datun Volcano Group from the air, you might find that the mountains look like steamed buns, and the distribution of mountains does not follow a definite direction like that in the Xueshan and the Central Mountain Ranges. This is because most of the mountains here were formed by the volcanic eruption in Yangmingshan area; in contrast, mountains in the Xueshan and Central Mountain Ranges were formed by crust extrusion. In these two examples, different formation processes have produced mountains with different shapes. Yangmingshan National Park is established to conserve these unique volcanic landscapes in Taiwan.
Did you know that Lengshuikeng (Cold Water Pit) is a lava-dammed pit? And did you know about the steam vents after it rains at Xiaoyoukeng? Rain water seeps into the earth through the cracks and is heated by underground heat. The resulting vapor escapes via openings in the ground, creating a unique scene.
Will the Xiaoyoukeng steam vents become larger in scope? If you have wondered about any of these questions, then this event is for you. Our activities and explanations are sure to satisfy your curiosity. You will discover interesting stories behind these solid rocks. For anyone looking for a lively and interesting geological experience, the Volcano and Geology Exploration Tour will not let you down.
There are two separate dates for this event: May 17 and May 25. Anyone who is interested in geology and is over the age of 6 is welcome. To register now, please visit the Yangmingshan National Park website at http://www.ymsnp.gov.tw and click on “Yangmingshan Volcano and Geology Exploration Tour” in the News section.
