Smoking to be Banned in Yangmingshan National Park Outside of Designated Smoking Zones from April 1

Under the auspices of Subparagraph 2, Paragraph 1, Article 16 of the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, National Parks are included amongst "other public recreational or entertainment outdoor sites” therefore, with the exception of designated smoking areas, smoking is strictly forbidden within all National Parks.

To protect citizens’ health and respect smokers’ rights, the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on March 4, 2014, that smoking is banned in 12 locations outside of designated smoking areas in Yangmingshan National Park (i.e. Xiaoyoukeng, Erziping, and Datun Nature Park etc.). The ban comes into effect from April 1, 2014. Smokers may only light up in designated smoking areas and violators will be subject to applicable fines.
