Walk with Nature and Embrace Yangmingshan: The Zhuzihu Eco Tour

Zhuzihu is located in the central region of Yangmingshan National Park; in former times, Han Chinese moved here to cultivate the fields. In 1923, during the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese set up the original Penglai rice fields here. Noting that the special terrain and moderate weather conditions were suitable for planting experimental rice strains, they cultivated special rice varieties here. Therefore the area is known as the origin of the Penglai rice which nowadays is the most popular rice variety in Taiwan. Zhuzihu has long been divided into three separate, enclosed areas - Donghu, Dinghu and Xiahu. Near the entrance to Zhuzihu from the Yangjin Highway is Donghu; across a small bridge, the road splits into two. The one on the right, which heads to the north is Dinghu, while the road on the left goes to Xiahu. In 1973 cultivation of rice in Zhuzihu ended, and instead vegetables suitable for cold and high altitude regions were grown. Over a decade ago, the popular calla lily began to be grown in Zhuzihu instead and is now a feature of the area. Spring in Yangmingshan is a season full of changes. In every corner of Yangmingshan there are different flowers in bloom.

Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters has planned a Zhuzihu Eco Tour route, combining both natural scenery and local color. We invite you and your family to visit the mountain and enjoy the wonders of spring. The activity is held on three days - the 15th, 23rd and 29th of March. Everyone who is interested in the natural environment of Zhuzihu is welcome. The registration fee is NTD800 per person, and places are limited.
