The Amphitheater of Yangmingshan National Park

The amphitheater of Yangmingshan National Park (YMSNP) Visitor Center opened in December of 2008, where the HD film of "Yangmingshan Sceneries" is featured.

For the purpose of diversifying the exhibitions in the Visitor Center, YMSNP has renovated the site and included brand new presentations. In order to do so, YMSNP has restructured the courtyard into an amphitheater that can accommodate 126 visitors (including 4 seats for people with wheelchairs).

YMSNP’s visual treat for the tourists -- the HD film of "Yangmingshan Sceneries" is featured in the amphitheater. Considering YMSNP’s unique geography and ecosystems, this film focuses on educating the audience rather than the traditional artistic approach.

Focusing on introducing the Datun Volcanoes and the influences of the northeast monsoon, the 25-minute long "Yangmingshan Sceneries" takes the audience to the familiar sites where topics such as the influences of acidic volcanic soil on vegetation and the influences of the northeast monsoon on the appearance and distribution of YMSNP’s vegetation are introduced. Basically, this film explains the relationships between the ecosystems in Yangmingshan.

Thus it is not a very "artistic" film. However, it is certainly a very educational one and answers many questions such as why the tree crowns of arbors in Siaoyoukeng are mostly circular, and why mountains shaped by volcanic eruptions look different from those shaped by tectonic movements. From the 25-minute film, the audience realizes how many ecological stories they have missed from the sceneries that they have visited before.
