Longfeng Valley was initially planned to be a block with a foot spa pool and a parking lot, which pertains to a special sight area instead of a recreation area, and therefore development activity is strictly limited by acts and it is still being surveyed by the Hydraulic Engineering Department of Taibei right now and is planned to be put into the scope of river curve.

Besides, this area may be flooded during the period of typhoon and rainstorm, and its geology is vulnerable and easy to collapse. Cnsequently, there is potential risk affecting the safety of tourists and Taibei Municipal Government has planned to develop Xinbeitou and Xingyi Road as a special area of hot spring and to arrange another public bath house. As a result, it has been confirmed that there is no need to carry out the concept of “foot spa pool” continuously one year before due to the alternation of acts.

Therefore, the Dept. of Management of the Park has refurbished a part of facilities, coated the land with other soil for melioration to plant some grass and planted a dozen of flowers and trees （including green paling and climbing vines for cement reservoirs） at its surrounding; besides, an ecological pool has been arranged at a place which is planned as a foot spa pool, planted with a dozen of hydrophytes after soil dressing and opened to the public for the purpose of recreation, enjoyment of prospect and environmental education; later on ten plant explanation boards （including hydrophytes） have been mounted for environmental education.

The field management staff of the Dept. of Management of the Park found the phenomenon of overgrowth of a part of waterweeds, confervoid and ruderal in this area about ten days ago, plus the exsciccation of part flowers and trees and the poor growth conditions of climbing vines, so the contractor was invited by telephone immediately to do a field survey, deal with the planting maintenance work of this area. It is predicted that the work will be done within the next few days.

There have been no talks of the conditions of pool eutrophication, turbidity and effervescence for over one year. There are not only lots of dragonflies, damselflies, water striders, tadpoles, Rana limnocharis, Taiwan labyrinth fish and other aquatic animals in the pool, a pair of Bufo melanostictus has also been seen mating and spawning in the clear pool on 14 of this month. For more than one year, the Dept. of Management of the Park has kept records every month and taken documentary pictures. As for rumors of silt deposited at the bottom of the pool, the silt actually is earth material coated for planting water weeds by the Dept. of Management of the Park.

Longfeng Valley, located at the southwest of Yangmingshan National Park and in the valley at the east of Tianmu Xingyi Road, used to be called Dahuangzui, is a site of mining sulphur by Yu Yonghe, a person of Qing Dynasty, and is rich in geology and topography such as solfatara and volcaniclastic rock. In winter when it rains a lot in mountainous areas, the weather in this area, compared with other recreation areas of Yangming Mountain, is quite good for it is located at leeward side. At present, the construction of various facilities such as public toilets, pavilions, the ecological pool, explanation boards in Longfeng Valley has been finished and Longfeng Valley becomes a proper place for environmental education and we welcome you to pay a visit.
