Yangmingshan National Park Cares for Injured Birds, Reintroduces Them Into the Wild

Since 2012, Yangmingshan National Park has been receiving injured birds rescued by concerned individuals. Wounded birds have included a grey treepie, oriental turtle dove chick, collared scoops owl, and streak-breasted scimitar babbler. The Headquarters treated each of the injured birds immediately. When receiving the grey treepie, we found that it had a broken wing. After one year of attentive care, the wing healed completely, and the bird was able to fly once again. Other birds, including an oriental turtle dove chick, collared scoops owl, and a streak-breasted scimitar babbler were also suitable to be released after a year of care. To help them return to nature as soon as possible, the Headquarters released them at 3:30 pm on September 27 from Jingshan Nature Center. The collared scoops owl was released shortly thereafter—after sunset—in light of its nocturnal traits.

In the brooding period, visitors often find chicks falling from the nest and take them to the conservation units. The Headquarters reminds people that, when discovering chicks in the wild, it is best to observe them from a distance to avoid disturbing natural ecology.

To protect our natural environment, please do not abandon or release pets or feed wild animals in the Park (especially stray dogs, Formosan macaques, and squirrels). Let us protect the beautiful mountains together. When people enter the national park, they may still experience the beauty of natural ecology.
