Typhoon Season Is Here: Hikers Urged to Be Extra Cautious

Weather can be unpredictable during the typhoon season, changing from sunny to rainy or foggy within a short time. Visitors who are planning to go hiking in the Park are urged to:

  1. Plan their itinerary in advance
(please refer to travel info provided by our website http://www.ymsnp.gov.tw/
  2. Notify family and friends of hiking plans.
  3. Pay attention to forecasts by the Central Weather Bureau
    http://www.cwb.gov.tw/V7/forecast/entertainment/nationalpark/
  4. Never go into the mountains during a typhoon.

When hiking, you should not walk on unopened trails or walk alone. Seniors must always be accompanied. In addition to hiring an experienced guide who knows the terrain, you should also bring a mobile phone, dry food, water, rain gear, warm clothes, flashlight, whistle, and any necessary personal medication. You should be aware of venomous snakes and wasps. When spotting the trace, please leave the place immediately.

In the event of an emergency, please contact the Park Headquarters at (02)2861-3601 or National Park Police at (02)2861-3609. If you are lost in the mountains, please do not panic. Stay where you are and try to locate a recognizable landmark. A distress call can be made by dialing 110 or 119 on a mobile phone, which can aid in a rescue effort if necessary.
