The opening ceremony was held on June 13 and 14 at the Erziping parking lot. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Zhong-Ming Ceng and Chief Secretary of the Construction and Planning Agency Zhao-Qi Chen spoke, and the beautifully made 'butterfly passport' was handed out onsite for participants to enjoy an interactive experience at the Butterfly Expo. Volunteers were also onsite to lead visitors along the Mt. Datun car lane and view butterflies in an in depth fashion. Along the way, ten butterfly ecology checkpoints were set up for people to learn more about butterflies, observe butterflies feeding on nectar plants, etc. Approximately 12,000 people attended the two-day event.
