The Taipei and Kaohsiung city mayoral and council elections came to a successful conclusion

The elections of the fourth-term Taipei and Kaohsiung mayors as well as members of the tenth-term Taipei City Council and seventh-term Kaohsiung City Council have ended on a peaceful and successful note. Premier Su expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication of election workers while extending his congratulations to all the winners. He also encouraged the newly elected mayors of Taipei and Kaohsiung—Kuomintang candidate Hau Lung-bin and Democratic Progressive Party candidate Chen Chu, respectively—and members of city councils by saying that "winning the election means taking on responsibility." Having taken on the responsibility granted them by the cities residents, they should rise above party and factional loyalties and keep the peoples welfare at heart while working together to promote national and economic development, he urged.

Premier Su remarked that the competition leading up to the elections in the capital city of Taipei and seaport of Kaohsiung was fierce. During the preceding campaigns, it was inevitable that supporters were mobilized and debates held, which are common practices in democratic politics. Now that the elections have ended, however, people should go back to their normal lives. Only by doing so can the political situation remain stable and peoples livelihoods and the economy continue to develop.

Premier Su also praised and showed concern for the staff that supervised, organized, and participated in the elections as well as for the police, investigators, and prosecutors who labored to correct improper behavior during the election and safeguard public security
