Teenagers die in two separate suicide jumps

Two junior high school students in two separate incidents allegedly jumped to their deaths at their Taipei homes on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.
A 16-year-old boy and a pregnant 15-year-old girl, who were not in any way connected, both chose to end their lives on Tuesday night, the police said.

It is believed that the boy, surnamed Chou, jumped from the top of a 13-story building because of school-work pressure, as his mother disclosed that she had taken him to task for not getting good-as-expected grades in his first senior high-school entrance exam.

However, his mother reportedly refused to accept that her son had committed suicide and insisted that he accidentally fell from the building. According to local reports, the mother said that her son left home on Wednesday night to borrow books rather than to kill himself.

In the other tragedy, a pregnant young woman, surnamed Lin, left a suicide note saying that she was unhappy, did not want to bring any trouble to her family and that death was her best choice. Lins father, who is a single parent, said he is usually busy working and has little time to give frequent attention to his two daughters.

Lins junior school urged its students on Thursday to seek help if theyre unhappy or encountering any difficulties.
