CHARITY HOLDS EXHIBIT PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Taipei, May 7 (CNA) A local charity organization is holding a two-week, large exhibition in Taipei to raise public awareness of environmental protection, a spokesman for the charity said Monday.

The remarks came after the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation kicked off the exhibition Sunday on the 41st anniversary of its founding at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.

The exhibition featured 148 large billboards on the foundation’s past efforts to promote environmental protection, while calling the public’s attention to the need to protect the ecosystem and fight global warming, the spokesman said.

Nearly 1,000 volunteer workers and members of the public participated in the event on the first day of the exhibition, the spokesman added. (By T.C. Jiang)
