Yangmingshan and Gyeongju National Parks (Korea) Renew MOU to Deepen International Cooperation and Exchange

The Yangmingshan National Park Headquarters, National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior and the Gyeongju National Park Office, Kore National Park Service today (September 23) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for another three years at the Gyeongju National Park Headquarters. Through the sharing of practical experience and management strategies, the two parks aim to further strengthen international collaboration and reach a new milestone in their partnership.

Director Sun Wei-jye of Yangmingshan National Park noted that Gyeongju National Park, home to multiple UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites, has accumulated rich experience in cultural resource conservation and management, volunteer engagement, forest fire prevention, and disaster response—all of which are valuable references for Yangmingshan National Park. He expressed hope that over the next three years, the friendship and cooperative ties between the two parks will grow even stronger, and that both sides will continue to learn from one another in various aspects of national park management.

Director Kim Chang-gil of the Gyeongju Office warmly welcomed the Yangmingshan delegation, remarking that today marks a meaningful occasion. He expressed his belief that the renewal of the MOU will further promote collaboration between the two parks, particularly in areas such as national park management, conservation, and sustainable development, paving the way for a more prosperous partnership.

Gyeongju National Park is the only historical and cultural-type national park among Korea’s 23 national parks and attracts the highest number of international visitors. The city of Gyeongju will also host the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit. As cooperation between Yangmingshan and Gyeongju continues, the public is also invited to visit Gyeongju National Park to experience the cultural charm of this ancient capital and historic city that has stood for over a millennium.
