The "2026 Yangmingshan Butterfly Season" series of events is set to kick off in late May! To give the public a deeper understanding of these "nature's dancers" that visit Yangmingshan in early summer, this year's lineup features the highly popular "Butterfly Joy Eco-Lectures." The lectures are completely free of charge. Everyone is invited to explore the ecological traits and diversity of butterflies through different perspectives, fostering a commitment to and care for natural habitat conservation.

Yangmingshan National Park boasts a uniquely blessed natural environment. Every early summer, when Shimada's Eupatorium (Eupatorium chinense var. tozanense) bursts into full bloom, thousands of milkweed butterflies gather and dance in the air. To transform this precious butterfly ecological resource into meaningful environmental education, the "Yangmingshan Butterfly Season" series is held annually in May and June. For the 2026 event, two special "Butterfly Joy Eco-Lectures" have been scheduled at the Visitor Center Audio-Visual Room:

• Lecture 1: "Flying Colorful Clouds—Nature's Dancers"

  • Time: Sunday, May 31, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

  • Speaker: Ms. Wang Lien-fen

  • Details: This session will provide a comprehensive introduction to basic butterfly ecology, including butterfly classification, body structure, natural predators, and defense strategies. It will also offer an in-depth analysis of Yangmingshan’s rich butterfly resources, guiding the public on how to "befriend" butterflies in daily life and get closer to these beautiful, fluttering spirits around us.

• Lecture 2: "A Casual Chat on the Ecology and Diversity of Milkweed Butterflies"

  • Time: Tuesday, June 23, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM

  • Speaker: Mr. Lu Sheng-chih

  • Details: This session will delve into the milkweed butterfly population, the most dazzling stars of early summer. It will lead the audience to understand the diversity and distribution characteristics of milkweed butterflies in Taiwan, and further explore related ecological issues. By guiding the public to recognize the key roles these butterflies play in the overall ecosystem, the lecture aims to cultivate care for the natural environment and inspire practical conservation actions.

Butterflies are indicator species for the ecological environment. Through the "Yangmingshan Butterfly Season" series, it is hoped that visitors can not only witness the stunning scenery of butterflies dancing in person, but also get to know, love, and protect butterflies through these indoor lectures, turning the concept of butterfly ecological conservation into concrete action.
